I have been using UCO candle lanterns for decades both backpacking and on geologic field outings. They are highly reliable, the candles burn clean and slow, the auto feed always works and they generate enough light to read by. Candle lanterns were common in the 1970 for backpacking - but they were all folding units that were fragile. The UCO design has held up - glad its still in production. Given a few of these as gifts

I prefer candle light to artificial but was always worried about open flame. The UCO candle lantern solves that worry. Great product, and great service as well. The glass was damaged when I received it so I wrote to the customer service email. They replied within hours and by the end of the day sent a replacement glass. I received it just a couple days later. I love the option of different replacement candles as well. I love the beeswax, and the option of the citronella for bug season. Well made product and a save way to have fire light, rather than artificial light.

For the past fifty or so years I have been hiking and camping in the wilderness, always alone.
