I purchased the original brass candle lantern with a 10 pack of the bees wax candles. Nowhere on any review have i seen negative results, but my results are terrible. The candles burn beautifully for the first 15 minutes or so then the flame reduces to a very poor quality flame and at around an hour of burn time the flame is completely gone with nothing but an ember on the wick, which does not extinguish but just continues to smolder. After i blow it out and let it cool then relight it the same procedure follows. I would not recommend this candle lantern with the bees wax candles (i haven't tried the white wax candles yet) all the reviews i've seen, people light the candle and let it burn seconds to minutes before blowing it out so it looks great initially and gets good reviews, but in reality is pretty much worthless if your looking for a piece of quality gear that you can count on to perform for an extended amount of time.
I have been using UCO candle lanterns from the inception of the company. I live/work in Panama as a field ornithologist and conservation scientist. Solar lights and generators don't work here for our rainy season, which is 6-months of cloudy weather! So we still use good old candles! The brass lantern is absolutely classic and has lasted us for YEARS. I still use it at home without electricity, in the field for camping/field work and for reading!
Nice design, clever and functional, the brass option is warm and cozy.
It's slightly heavier, but I like the look and feel of the brass body. A clever and timeless design.
